The most over-rated & selfish practice, yet approved and appreciated at large, is self-sacrifice. Yeah, let it settle in.

Self-sacrificing people tend to attend to other people's needs before their own because it is fulfilling their own needs. Not always, but most of the time. It can be damaging to the core when it's unconscious and out of habit.

People are repressing their feelings, their dreams, their wishes, and their goals to gain approval and acceptance from those who already are sitting in regret and contempt for what they sacrificed in their life. Some are sacrificing to want the approval of people who might be benefitting from that sacrifice.

Choose your sacrifice

To some degree, we all sacrifice ourselves for others at some point in life. Close relationships require to sacrifice the most. It's never easy. The sacrifice is inevitable but always know that you get to choose.

We may sometimes think that there's no choice but to sacrifice. This scenario helps no one. Not the sacrificer and not for the person whom you are sacrificing for. It only creates the ego identity in you as the sacrificer and then all your sacrifices are to feed this unconsciously created identity & it's needs.

And the other person is also put under the burden of psychological pressure with your sacrifice and sometimes may feel to be held in captivity if they are also acting out from the place of unconsciousness.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” ― C.G. Jung

So before you sacrifice your time, resources, personal goals, and preferences, get an understanding of whether or not it's worth your present or future and your beautiful life.

A good test of whether your sacrifices are worth it is to answer the following question -

1. What kind of person will I become if I choose to sacrifice X?

OR/AND

2. What will I gain if I sacrifice X?

Cheers to you for choosing the sacrifices for the better you✌️

Harshank
